Genesis 1:26 says, “Then God said, ‘Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.’” Out of the whole terrestrial creation, human beings to our knowledge are the only creatures made in God’s image. What makes us so different from the animals, and what is it that shows we are uniquely made in God’s image? This week we will explore one of the things that sets us apart- the gift of memory. No other creatures have the ability to remember specific events, and further, no other creatures have the desire or ability to contemplate the meaning of those memories. In this, and for His purposes, we are made in God’s image.
